Civvies Day – Thurs 9th Feb

The Self Defence Seminar this Thursday is postponed, following the late arrival of Barker number 2…probably till next month. Instead we shall be doing a “Civvies Day”. i.e. training in your normal clothes and shoes. So remember to bring your trousers/shorts/tracksuits and trainers. We shall be doing a normal class but training in clothes and shoes to give you a feel for fighting in restrictive wear.

7.30pm in Studio 1 as normal. See you there!

(n.b. For those non-native brits….“Civvies” is short for “civilians”…an army term for wearing your normal or civilian clothes)

New Fees & Offer

I’m delighted to say that we have adjusted our fees to a monthly based system. This will work out much cheaper for regulars….now only £60 per month (£35 concessions), a saving of up to £20! This also includes all special seminars as an added bonus. For those that train less frequently it should work out more or less the same. This will help with budgeting and make administration much easier all round for everyone…giving more time to concentrate on training. Hopefully it will also encourage regular attendance so we can all improve the standard.

Please go to the Info page for more details. There are some forms you can download. It is payable by standing order, with no contract or lock-in. Its very simple to do. If you can fill out and return to me as soon as possible it would be very much appreciated.

We are also introducing a “Bring a Buddy” offer. Bring a friend along and, if they sign up, you both get 1 month’s training free! (worth up to £60 each!). Check out the info page for more details.

Thank you for your ongoing support and looking forward to fantastic year of training together where we can all improve and develop.

Grading is a Smash

Congratulations to all those that took the grading today. Absolutely brutal and real martial spirit. It was some of the best performances I’ve seen, noticebly from Jason and Aeron taking their blue stripe. Fantastic! Keep up the good work guys.

2012 Programme

I have now set the programme, based on feedback from members. I have cut down on the number of seminars but organised them so that there is still something every month.

  1. The Self Defence Seminar will now also include weapons defence (knives, sticks, bottles, chains etc) for regulars/repeat members taken from the brown stripe syllabus. There will still be a theory element to it which will be aimed to beginners/new members, but it will be shorter in length.
  2. The stick and knife seminar have been combined to a Weapons Seminar, which will be divided half between the two, with elements of the brown stripe and black belt syllabus.
  3. The Grappling Seminar will be done on a Thursday in Studio 1. Its not ideal as we won’t have access to the padded room at Cobra, but the feedback was that weekends weren’t popular, so we shall have to make do with the blue matts. This will draw in elements of the blue stripe/brown/black syllabus as before.
  4. The special classes on the 3rd Anniversary and Closing Session will continue to give you a taster of some of the advanced elements of Bushin such as trapping, ki work, pressure points, dirty boxing etc.

Some of the dates may move around depending on bookings and my personal commitments. Upcoming events over the next 3 months are always shown at the bottom of the webpage. The provisional schedule will look like this. If you ever need to confirm dates when booking holidays etc., please just ask….

  • Jan 5 – First class back
  • Feb 9 – Self Defence Seminar
  • Mar 4 – Grading
  • Apr 5 – Grappling Seminar
  • May 3 – Sparring Seminar
  • June 10 – Grading
  • July 5 – Weapons Seminar
  • Sept 2 – Grading
  • Sept 13 – Self Defence Seminar
  • Oct 18 – 3rd Anniversary (Special Class)
  • Dec 2 – Grading
  • Dec 13 – Closing Session (Special Class)

I hope you will be pleased with the programme. We can always look to change it at a later stage if we get interest to do something differently. I look forward to another enjoyable year. Please do your best to attend the seminar…I’m sure you will get a lot out of them!

Grapple, Defend & Grade

G&G Seminar – This Sunday 6th Nov

Reminder: We have our grappling and groundwork seminar this Sunday 2-3.30pm in Cobra Gym. This time we shall be focusing on pure groundwork taking mainly elements of BJJ to work on positions of strength and set up some submissions. We shall placing less emphasis on the self defence side of things this time to work on some technical drills to get the muscle memory working. Then of course spar it all in to make sure it works. Bring your spare set of lungs!

Free Self Defence Tasters – 19th/20th Nov

On Saturday and Sunday 19/20th November we shall be running two free self defence tasters. 4-5pm in Studio 1. Invite your family, friends and colleagues to have a go! For those going for grading it will be a chance to get some extra practise in too. We shall be running our usual stand in the foyer on Saturday from 12-4pm to give out some flyers and try to recruit some newbies. Please let me know if you are able to help out…the more the merrier!

Grading – 4th Dec

Apologies but I’ve had to put the grading back to its original date of Sunday 4th December, 2-5pm. We shall be spending most of November practising for it, so those who are going for it, start putting the effort in now.
